NEW PASSPORT PROCESS FROM JANUARY 1ST, 2012
Update November 17, 2011
New PAssport Process From Jan. 1st, 2012
Your present passport is still valid until the date of expiry.
The decision to introduce fingerprints in passports has been made at central level in the EU as part of the combat against terrorism, human trade, human trafficking, illegal immigration and other transnational crime. With the new biometric passport, Danish citizens are secured the possibility to travel to countries that will require this type of passport for entry in the future.
With the new passport you are much better protected against someone stealing your identity and pretending to be you, and also against forgery of your passport.
In order to issue the new passport, the installation at of special equipment for taking photos and recording fingerprints and signatures is necessary. The applications must be handed to and handled by specially authorized staff, who will have access to certain data in the central citizens registry, the CPR.
As a consequence, from January 1, 2012 it will only be possible to apply for a Danish passport in the United States, by personal appearance, at these locations:
The Danish Consulate General in New York: www.denmark.org
The Danish Consulate General in Chicago: www.gkchicago.um.dk
Innovation Center Denmark, Silicon Valley, CA: www.siliconvalley.um.dk
The Danish honorary consulates in the United States will not be able to accept passport applications after January 1, 2012.
What are my options up until January 1, 2012?
Until December 31, 2011, you may renew your passport as described on the embassy’s website: Application for Passport. The new passports will be valid for 2, 5 or 10 years – as they are currently.
What can be handled by the consulates from January 1, 2012?
After January 1, 2012 the embassy and the honorary consulates can still extend the validity of passports and issue emergency passports.
A condition for extension of an expired passport is that it expired no longer than two years ago. A passport can only be extended once and for a maximum of 12 months. We recommend that you make sure that the authorities of the country or countries you plan to travel to recognizes extended passports. Please note that it is not possible to travel without a visa to the USA on an extended passport.
An emergency passport is issued with validity limited to the period required for the duration of the journey and rules of the countries to be travelled through, and for a maximum of 12 months. An emergency passport must be rendered to the Police or to a Danish mission abroad after use. Travelling with an emergency passport may cause problems with other countries’ border controls. Therefore we recommend that you make sure that the authorities of the country or countries you plan to travel to recognize emergency passports. Please note that you cannot return to the United States on an emergency passport.
Can I get a new passport during my holiday in Denmark?
Yes. It is already possible – and cheaper – to get a passport with a municipality (kommune) in Denmark. All Danish citizens can apply for a passport at the Civil Service Center (Borgerservicecenter) in any municipality. It is not necessary for you to reside in or in other way be attached to the municipality. You can find addresses of Civil Service Centres at www.kommune.dk. You may wish to call beforehand for information on opening hours, booking of appointment etc. and inform them that you reside abroad.
Can my child be included in my passport?
No. Since October 1, 2004 children, also newly borns and children without names, must have their own passport. A consulate may issue a temporary (emergency) passport if necessary. See above on emergency passports.
Must children also give their fingerprints?
No. Fingerprints are not collected from children below 12 years of age, but they still have to appear in person in order to apply for a passport. From January 1, 2012, applications for passports for children can only be handed in at the locations listed above.
How do I collect my new passport?
You may have your passport sent to you by FedEx. But first you must send in your old passport for cancellation.

Women Around the World
In October 2009, Oprah traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark's charming
capital city, to support Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympics. Well,
Chicago didn't get picked, but that didn't stop Oprah from enjoying
her first visit to the country that's considered one of the happiest
places on earth.
For the past 30 years, scientific researchers and survey results
have all reached the same conclusion—Danes are consistently
happier than the rest of the world. On the "world map of happiness"
—a map created by a social psychologist in England—Switzerland,
Austria and Iceland rank just below Denmark on the happiness scale.
Canada comes in at number 10, while the United States is a distant 23rd.
So what makes the Danes so happy? Oprah met up with Nanna
Norup, a resident of Copenhagen, to find out. As they walk down the
cobblestone streets, Nanna explains some of the differences between
Denmark and America.
For instance, in Copenhagen, people are very environmentally conscious.
A third of the population rides bikes around the city, many with grocery
bags or small children in tow.
Homelessness, poverty and unemployment are also extremely rare in
this nation of 5.5 million people. If you lose your job, Nanna says the
government continues to pay up to 90 percent of your salary for four
years. And not to worry…healthcare is free for everyone.

Choir of Young Believers from Denmark will
visit Schubas, Chicago
When listening to Denmark’s Choir of Young Believers, it’s hard not
to imagine an army of white-clad singers with arms outstretched,
their voices raised in holy polyphony—in fact, the Danish group is
the brainchild of one 26-year-old Jannis Noya Makrigiannis. For years,
Jannis moved in the underground circles of the Copenhagen indie scene.
After the breakup of his old band in 2006, he moved to the Greek island
of Samos and began developing his own solo material. Jannis returned
to Copenhagen and, gathering musicians and friends around him, formed
Choir of Young Believers, an orchestral-pop project marked by magisterial
melodies, dark lyrical concerns, and a healthy dose of cathedral-grade
reverb. The songs on Choir of Young Believers’ debut album This Is for
the White in Your Eyes mix modest folk arrangements with ambitious,
grandiose indie pop, cooled with a stoic Nordic distance and glowing
with an inner light. Musical nods to Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys,
Pixies, and Hank Williams abound, but Jannis and his Choir Of Young
Believers have forged their own neck-tinglingly singular sound.
Schubas, October 26, 8.00pm. Tickets $8.

Danish Soccer Team in Chicago
Denmark is represented at the annual soccer tournament,
Chicago World Cup!
One-Day World Cup in Chicago
This annual one-day World cup for amateur teams will take place at Rauner YMCA
on June 27th, and for the first time in its 4 years of existence, Denmark will go up against France, Germany, Spain and many other national teams.
Team Denmark consists of a mix of Danish and US soccer players from the
Chicago area. “This year we are just there to represent Denmark and have a
fun day with our families and friends. Our main goal of the tournament is to beat
the reigning European champions, Spain, and take revenge once and for all! I do
have to add that Sweden does not have a team in this year’s tournament.” Says
Captain of Team Denmark, Kristian Buur.
For more information about the tournament, visit http://www.chicagoworldcup.com/
Also, if you are interested in sponsoring team Denmark in the tournament, please contact Kristian Buur (kribuu@um.dk) for details.
So far the team has one sponsor, local legal advisor and MWDACC corporate
member, Soseman Law Firm. Soseman Law Firm has been generous in its
contribution, and will have the company logo on the front of the team shirts.
However, there is still plenty of space for additional logos on the shirts.

2 - Jan ”Piechnik” Jensen
3 - Jeff ”Rieper” Mohr
